ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • After a 20-day fire was extinguished at the A&M Composting facility on Dec. 26, another blaze ignited in one of its bays on Dec. 28, and DEP maintained a daily presence to manage air quality and begin off-site disposal of burnt material.  Local 21 News

BUSINESS NEWS

  • The Sugar Bowl in Lancaster City will close after nearly 20 years as owners Dimitri and Tina Karpouzis retire, and customers can enjoy its dishes until March 8. The space will later become home to Pizzeria 211 (currently at Lancaster Southern Market) while the Millersville location remains open.  WGAL

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • South Duke Street in Lancaster will be closed for infrastructure improvements starting Monday, Jan. 5 until the end of March as crews install stormwater pipes, utility structure and temporary paving. No through traffic is allowed while drivers follow detour routes (green for southbound, orange for northbound).  WGAL

HEALTH NEWS

  • The American Red Cross reported a 20% rise in fire emergency calls over the holidays, with more than 1,700 Pennsylvanians needing help between November and New Year's. On New Year's Day, a fire in Springettsbury Township displaced seven people, and officials stress the importance of working smoke alarms.  WGAL

LIFESTYLE NEWS

  • Stargazers in Lancaster can watch today’s Wolf Supermoon peaking just after 5 a.m. and the Quadrantid meteor shower amid possible cloud cover — local weather experts advise dressing warmly as temperatures dip into the mid-20s.  Local 21 News

SPORTS NEWS

  • Lancaster County native and Penn State offensive lineman Nolan Rucci declared for the 2026 NFL Draft on Jan. 2. The Lititz native played three seasons with Wisconsin before starting 18 games at Penn State and now looks to join professional football.  WGAL
