COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Officer Jason Skiles of East Hempfield encountered a wheelchair-bound man at a local Lowe's and enlisted community help via social media to furnish his new apartment (including furniture and household items) while later driving him to get a haircut to restore his confidence.  Local 21 News
  • Hundreds gathered Monday at the Pennsylvania Farm Show Complex’s Main Hall for a mullet contest open to kids, teens and adults in age-based and throwback categories. Judges evaluated hair length, style (and flair) as they awaited final winner announcements.  WGAL

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Students at Saint Joan of Arc Catholic School met their adopted calves at the Pennsylvania Farm Show after months of learning about dairy farming. The free Adopt-a-Cow program (a joint effort by Discover Dairy and Kurtland Farm) now gives students hands-on education.  FOX43

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • UGI crews are installing a new natural gas main in Elizabethtown until the end of March; work runs Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. and may cause lane, parking, and gas service interruptions (comment period ends Feb. 12).  WGAL
  • The Shapiro administration announced last Monday at the PA Farm Show that it invested $600,345 in youth agriculture grants across 33 counties, awarding 62 projects; in Lancaster, Killiann George received $7,018 for a hands-on animal reproduction lab.  FOX43

HEALTH NEWS

  • Local health providers and cannabis educators in Lancaster warn that heavy use of high-potency cannabis can lead to a condition known as 'scromiting'—severe vomiting and dehydration that may require urgent care. Experts advise users to start with low doses and seek medical attention if symptoms occur.  FOX43

SPORTS NEWS

  • At a Hershey Bears game Saturday night, eight-year-old players engaged in a melee during an unsanctioned intermission play at the Regency Ice Rink in Lancaster, prompting Central Penn Panthers to investigate. The Atlantic Amateur Hockey Association called the fight staged and will review all accounts by Friday.  WGAL
