COMMUNITY NEWS

  • A fundraiser has been launched for Jillian Dietz to cover final and memorial expenses after her husband, Douglas Dietz, died Tuesday morning — campaign organizer Janet Smith said extra donations will help her manage the coming days.  Local 21 News

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Today's Drought Monitor indicates moderate to severe drought is affecting much of the Susquehanna Valley, with southwestern counties especially hit — due to below-average rain, warmer temperatures, and low soil moisture. No widespread rain is expected within the next week.  WGAL
  • A fire that burned for over a month at A&M Composting in Lancaster County is now out, easing local air quality concerns with no fire or smoke reported since Jan. 2; A&M also said it disposed 1,100 tons of waste at a Bucks County landfill early this year.  WGAL

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Pennsylvania Board of Game Commissioners will discuss changing the deer hunting season opening day from the Saturday after Thanksgiving to the Saturday before Thanksgiving (Jan. 23-24), a proposal intended to give hunters more opportunities and adjust wildlife management by also shifting bear and special season dates.  WGAL

HEALTH NEWS

  • Curtis International announced an expanded recall of 330,000 Frigidaire minifridges sold exclusively at Target from Jan. 2020 to Oct. 2023 due to electrical faults that sparked six fires causing property damage — no injuries were reported. Owners should unplug the units and mark them 'Recall' before disposal per local guidelines.  Daily Voice

  • Lancaster County native Hayden Rucci joined the 49ers practice squad on Thursday after tight end George Kittle was injured; the former Warwick High School standout is the only TE on the practice squad and will prepare for the team's Saturday 8:00 p.m. playoff game against the Seahawks.  FOX43
