COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Farmers at Eastland Alpacas in Mount Joy spent ten hours clearing paddock areas after over 12 inches of snow made conditions difficult for their alpacas; the farm built temporary pens (to shelter animals) and checks nine heated water bowls twice daily to care for its 91 alpacas.  WGAL
  • Today, a sinkhole has opened at the intersection of State and Locust streets and disrupted water service. Neighbors show support for workers with donuts and coffee (and pizza) as crews work to repair the damage.  WGAL

CULTURE NEWS

  • Enigma Escape Room opened last December in Manheim (27 N. Main St.) and was founded by special effects artist Jarred Alcala. It offers an immersive 'Lost Temple' puzzle room with two additional themes coming soon.  PennLive
  • Lancaster residents are excited for Bad Bunny’s upcoming Super Bowl halftime show (his performance follows a recent Grammy win) as he celebrates Puerto Rican culture and unites diverse fans in the city. The event will bring community pride to the big game.  WGAL

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • After days of unseasonably cold weather froze rivers, the News 8 Storm Team is monitoring ice jams along the Susquehanna Valley — this includes the Susquehanna, Juniata, and Swatara rivers — as warming in the next 8 to 14 days may break the ice and cause flooding.  WGAL

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A stretch of Route 772 is closed in West Earl Township from Stone Quarry Road to Peace Road until Friday, Feb. 13 after crews uncovered a large sinkhole during repairs following a water main break+ drivers should take alternate routes to avoid fines.  WGAL

HEALTH NEWS

  • On World Cancer Day, health experts focused on early detection as Enola resident Kelly Eikler shared how a test caught her stage one cervical cancer before her wedding, helping her manage treatment. Dr. Jennifer Rosenberg noted that routine screenings + timely care are key to better outcomes.  FOX43
  • The Pennsylvania Department of Health confirmed five measles cases among school-aged children and young adults in Lancaster County on Jan. 30, with one case linked to travel. Health officials noted that unvaccinated and undervaccinated patients are more at risk and advised providers to report cases with fever and rash.  Local 21 News
