COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Local homelessness coalitions in Lancaster and Lebanon counties have issued code blue alerts urging homeless families to seek temporary shelter amid frigid weather. In Lancaster County, the alert starts at 3 a.m. today and lasts until Monday at 11 a.m., while in Lebanon County it remains effective through Monday at 11 a.m.  WGAL

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Drone footage shows the Susquehanna River locked in ice during winter weather, revealing broad icy stretches and patchwork breaks that officials warn could become dangerous if temperatures rise, so residents are urged to admire from the shoreline (ice can shift quickly and trigger flooding).  WGAL
  • Cold weather has delayed the arrival of snow geese + tundra swans at Middle Creek Wildlife Management Area, the Pennsylvania Game Commission said. With the lake frozen and fields snow-covered, peak birdwatching will likely begin later as the birds wait for thawed conditions.  WGAL
  • A PA Farm Country bald eagle nest in Lancaster County produced its first egg on Thursday at 4:26 p.m., expected to hatch in about 35 days, and a second egg may be laid today — watch a 24/7 livestream of the nest.  Local 21 News

HEALTH NEWS

  • A boil water advisory remains in effect in Talmage after a water main break + sinkhole disrupted service and closed South State Street and part of Route 772 until Friday, Feb. 13. Residents should boil water or use bottled water for drinking, cooking, and cleaning.  FOX43
  • CAMP HILL — Thermotech HVAC Services and PPL Electric Utilities advise homeowners to service their heaters, insulate doors and windows, change filters, and prepare backup plans as temperatures plunge this weekend and state law requires quick heat restoration.  WGAL
  • On Tuesday, Feb. 3, the US Food and Drug Administration recalled 6,000+ repackaged M&M’s candies in 20 states for omitting allergen details like milk+soy+peanuts.
