- ➤ At Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Columbia, over 200 volunteers began at 4 a.m. to prepare more than 5,000 fastnachts as part of its 102nd annual celebration — continuing a 100+ year tradition that supports church ministries over the next five weeks. Local 21 News
- ➤ Lititz Fire & Ice Festival will replace melted ice sculptures with new single-block and giant works on Friday, Feb. 20 in downtown and at Lititz Springs Park, organizers said. The 10-day celebration — including food trucks, a Chili Cook-Off at Linden Hall and a Makers Market on Saturday — ends on Feb. 22. FOX43

- ➤ At Tuesday's board meeting, the School District of Lancaster debated two options for Phoenix Academy (relocating students to JP McCaskey with limited staffing or merging programs under district staffing) and tabled a decision for two weeks as it reviews plans for 2026-27. WGAL
- ➤ Two School District of Lancaster employees were placed on leave after an 11-year-old nonverbal student left Fulton Elementary unattended and was found several blocks away last week; district officials are reviewing safety plans and supervision practices as the student's mother transfers him to a special program. ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection issued a Code Orange air quality alert on Tuesday for Lancaster and nearby counties. The alert warned sensitive groups (children, older adults, and people with asthma or heart conditions) to limit outdoor activity as pollution levels increased. WGAL
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Veolia Water Company asked the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission to dismiss an Office of Consumer Advocate (OCA) complaint over water discoloration, inconsistent credits, and service issues reported last summer affecting customers in Susquehanna Township and nearby communities. - ➤ A farm in Penn Township was busy Tuesday as crews from Lewis Environmental used excavation equipment to manage an avian flu outbreak. Secretary Russell Redding said more than 7 million chickens died since late January plus the Route 283 corridor remains a hot zone for quarantined farms. WGAL

- ➤ WGAL’s Bethany Miller and Jacob Hall took part in an ice skating session (with the Hershey Bears) in Hershey, Pa, where they wobbled and fell several times while trying to mimic professional players. They laughed about their missteps and compared their slips to hockey greats. WGAL
