- ➤ Warwick School District held its 10th annual Resilience Community event at Warwick High School on Thursday. Community members enjoyed food truck services, learned about local resources and student projects, and watched a screening of Brave the Dark with a live filmmaker Q&A (the event aimed to give students a voice). EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Caroline Pate-Hefty, superintendent of Manheim Township School District, was placed on administrative leave Wednesday when privacy rules limit public details on the investigation & the district has yet to name an interim leader. Legal consultant Paula Knudsen Burke raised concerns about public transparency. WGAL
- ➤ Parents have kept their 11-year-old autistic, nonverbal son out of school after he ran away from Robert Fulton Elementary last week; he was found on Feb. 10 on West King Street by a good Samaritan, and two school staff are on administrative leave as the district investigates. WGAL
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ A bald eagle rescued in York County died from lead poisoning this week after ingesting fragments from hunting bullets, wildlife rehabilitator Tracie Young (of Raven Ridge Wildlife Center) said, while another eagle remains in treatment. Young encouraged using non-lead ammunition to protect local wildlife. WGAL
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Since Feb. 9, SNAP recipients in Pennsylvania have needed to supply proof of shelter and utility costs for benefits renewal if these expenses are not on file, and households that move must update their documents. The Central Pennsylvania Food Bank now offers help with the application process. FOX43
- ➤ York Water Company will raise rates on water and wastewater starting March 1, adding about $8.51 and $25.45 per month respectively — the extra funds will pay for system upgrades and help expand low-income assistance programs. FOX43
