  • Throughout Lent, many churches in Central PA are hosting fish fry dinners for those observing the season, offering meals on Fridays and select weekdays from Feb. 20 through March 27—dinner times and prices vary by location in towns such as Lancaster, Gettysburg, and Hershey.  FOX43
  • A Scoop of Hope packed 120 backpacks of essential items at M&T Bank to support recovery from rehab and aims to beat last year’s record of 467 backpacks. The nonprofit will host its annual Ice Cream Social on May 30 at 521 Club, honoring its origins.  FOX43

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A sinkhole opened last Friday along Route 772 in Talmage between Locust Street and Peace Road, closing the westbound lane—officials said it was expected to reopen later that day while eastbound traffic remained open.  Local 21 News
  • A new sinkhole opened along Route 772 in the 300 block of South State Street near Stoltzfus Avenue in West Earl Township Friday morning — just a few houses from the previous collapse that closed the road and prompted a boil water advisory, and crews worked on repairs while officials confirmed water service was not affected.  WGAL

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Today, Lancaster County hosted the annual Concrete Expo featuring live demos, product testing, and networking for contractors — organizers said the event showcased evolving industry products.  FOX43

CULTURE NEWS

  • New shipments of ice have arrived in Lititz as local artists prepare to carve fresh sculptures for the annual Fire and Ice Festival; after earlier carvings melted from rising temperatures, organizers said the sculptures (each block weighs about 300 pounds) will be on display until Sunday.  WGAL

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Today, Lancaster will see a mix of clouds and sunshine with a high near 44°F. A winter storm watch is in effect for counties including Lancaster, and light snow is expected late tonight into Sunday with possible heavier accumulations in southern areas.  WGAL

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Three Newville Post Office letter carriers were honored Friday with the Million Mile Award from the National Safety Council for achieving over 30 years of safe driving, and a hiring event will be held at the Carlisle Post Office from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Feb. 27.  FOX43
  • State grants deliver over $1.25 million to fire and EMS departments in south central counties, including $135,000 for Cumberland and Dauphin counties and $132,000 for Lancaster and Lebanon counties — funding that will upgrade equipment and reduce debt to better serve the community.  FOX43

SPORTS NEWS

  • District 3 high school basketball playoffs continued Friday across the Susquehanna Valley with several games featuring close scores, as Trinity beat Lancaster Catholic 75 to 39 in Class 3A and York Suburban won 46 to 25 in Class 5A, setting up further matchups on Wednesday.  WGAL
