ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Severe storms and high winds caused a roof to blow off a brick farmhouse on South Custer Avenue in Earl Township on Monday, Mar. 17 — Garden Spot Fire Rescue confirmed crews assessed the damage and that no one was injured.  WGAL
  • A fallen tree, caused by damaging winds, shut down a Lancaster road on Tuesday, March 17, leaving 70 residents without power on St. Joseph Street (one person still remains without service) as crews completed repairs by 3 p.m.  Local 21 News
  • On Friday evening, severe weather caused a barn to collapse on a farm in Brecknock Township as crews from the Fivepointville Fire Company confirmed all occupants were safe.  Local 21 News
  • A farm in Brecknock Township suffered severe damage from Monday's storms when high winds collapsed six buildings and scattered debris, and the home lost part of its roof (firefighters confirmed all occupants were safe and no cows were harmed).  WGAL

CULTURE NEWS

  • Irish dancers from the Paloma School of Irish Dance performed across Lancaster County on Tuesday for St. Patrick’s Day, with about 40–50 scheduled performances at spots such as Annie Bailey’s, Park City Diner, and Bull’s Head Inn. The busy schedule highlighted the community’s festive spirit.  WGAL

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The School District of Lancaster board postponed its vote to furlough over 100 employees due to a $10M deficit and will meet next week to review public comments before finalizing the resolution (per state law).  WGAL

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • After storms knocked out power on Monday night, the City of Lancaster opened warming shelters at Tec Centro (57 Laurel Street) and Tenfold (308 East King Street) on Tuesday evening, and staff canvassed neighborhoods to distribute flyers.  Local 21 News
  • Recent council meetings saw local business owners raise concerns that the Blueprints for Addiction Recovery center on North Queen Street is affecting retail patronage, while the center stressed it connects residents with vital services and urged city officials to preserve its zoning given a community need.  Local 21 News
  • The school board postponed a vote to furlough 109 staff due to a budget shortfall, and a final decision will be made next week — leaders expect cuts to continue and say the move could save about $17 million.  Local 21 News
  • Drivers face rolling stops at the Route 30/222 interchange in Manheim Township as PennDOT delays work due to weather on a major project. The southbound ramp to Route 30 westbound is closed for pavement repairs today — lane expansions and new lighting will ease traffic by year-end.  WGAL

  • The Millersville baseball team spent January in the Dominican Republic where eight players and their coach led clinics and shared their faith. They used baseball to connect with local kids and plan to return next year—aiming to build lasting service ties.  FOX43
