COMMUNITY NEWS

  • A Lancaster barber brought his services outside at Sparo Barbershop on Columbia Avenue after noticing wheelchair user Matthew Witmer could not access the shop's stairs. Chino gave Witmer a 55-year-old gentleman rock and roller haircut, and local passersby responded with praise.  WGAL
  • A 107-year-old red oak that once shaded Village Green at Masonic Village fell several weeks ago, with no injuries or damage reported. The retirement community said staff (who had monitored the tree) are now considering creative ways to honor its legacy.  WGAL

  • Pizza Hut launched a Space Jam bundle for March Madness on Wednesday, Mar. 18, offering a limited-time meal at $21.99 that includes two medium pizzas, breadsticks, and cinnamon sticks (in a design inspired by the iconic film). EDUCATION NEWS

  • Manheim Township School District plans to end superintendent Caroline Pate-Hefty's contract while keeping her on paid leave with her $227K salary until June 30 at a board meeting today at 6 p.m. (450A Candelwyck Rd) that will also appoint a substitute superintendent and a new board member.  PennLive

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Lancaster County Planning Department invites residents to review the Draft Parks and Trails Master Plan through April 10 and share their thoughts online. Locals can also visit the open house today from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Public Safety Training Center on Champ Blvd in Manheim.  WGAL
  • PennDOT announced overnight repairs on Route 283 from March 26 to March 30 that will require single-lane closures between Esbenshade Road in Rapho Township and State Road in East Hempfield Township, with work from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. drivers should plan extra travel time.  PennLive
  • Residents at Plateau Village Mobile Home Park expressed anger at a meeting about United Zion Retirement Community’s plan to replace their homes with 78 units, while township supervisors said they cannot stop the park’s closure (set for Jan. 1, 2027) and will decide on the expansion in 45 days.  WGAL

HEALTH NEWS

  • The U.S. Department of Agriculture confirmed on March 12 that a bird flock in Lancaster County tested positive for avian flu, affecting nearly 35,000 birds (Pennsylvania has seen 28 positive flocks this year). The Lancaster County Rapid Response Center in Manor Township remains ready with supplies.  WGAL
