ECONOMY NEWS

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Emily Stauffer, a senior at Warwick High School, was awarded a full four-year Dorsey Scholarship to McDaniel College (valued over $250,000) for her academics and community service. She will study biochemistry and plans to attend medical school to become a gastroenterologist.  WGAL
  • The Manheim Township School District board approved Superintendent Dr. Caroline Pate-Hefty's resignation and named Dr. Martin Hudacs as interim superintendent on Thursday night. Pate-Hefty will remain on paid leave until June 30 with regular salary, benefits, and severance pay as outlined in her agreement.  WGAL

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • A red-shouldered hawk got trapped in fishing line strung across a Lititz backyard pond during a February winter storm and was rescued by a wildlife volunteer — its injured wing treated before it was released on March 8.  PennLive

  • Lancaster County Planning Department seeks public input on its Draft Parks & Trails Master Plan, which aims to enhance county-owned parks and expand regional trail connections; comments are accepted through April 10.  FOX43

HEALTH NEWS

  • The USDA confirmed on Tuesday that an egg-laying flock with 870,000 birds in Lancaster County tested positive for avian flu. This is the 29th flock in Pennsylvania to be affected by the virus.  WGAL
