  • Rita's held its free Italian ice giveaway on Friday to mark spring's first day across more than 600 locations (including local spots). The chain debuted its new Mystery PEEPS flavor, offering a contest to win free Rita's for a year.  Local 21 News
  • Pennsylvania State Police honored K-9 Senna, who died peacefully at home on March 4 after more than 1,300 deployments that helped seize $18.63 million in narcotics. The loyal canine, certified in 2018 with Corporal Jonathan Casey, retired in Sept. 2025 and left a lasting mark on community safety.  WGAL

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Residents in Manheim Township questioned the school board’s decision to part ways with Superintendent Dr. Caroline Pate-Hefty, asking for clear answers on the confidential contract clause—while board president Patrick Grenter defended the move and named Dr. Martin Hudacs as interim superintendent.  WGAL

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Manheim Township is restructuring its emergency response by partnering with Lancaster Emergency Medical Services Association and Penn State Health LifeLion to run two ambulances 24/7, ensuring quality care even if mutual aid units are needed when both primary squads are busy.  WGAL

HEALTH NEWS

  • Lancaster County commercial farms reported an ongoing increase in highly pathogenic avian flu cases in March, with 1,079,900 birds affected at three facilities (USDA said). Nearly 7.2 million cases have been reported since January, raising concerns for the local poultry industry.  FOX43
  • Aldi recently recalled a batch of Simply Nature Spinach Bites with possible rodent hair contamination sold in Pennsylvania, affecting 7,894 12-ounce boxes. Consumers are advised not to eat the product and to return it or dispose of it while the recall remains active (no illnesses were reported).  Local 21 News
  • Roxanna Gapstur, president & CEO of WellSpan Health, is honored for leading a 23,000-person team with a focus on innovative care and inspiring future female leaders. She was named the STEM Pillar recipient for the 2026 Girl Scouts Women of Distinction Awards.  WGAL
