COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Bob and Marlin Miller, the ninth-generation family stewards, preserve a 309-year-old farm in Lancaster County that traces its roots to 1717 — Pennsylvania’s oldest. The 62-acre site, featuring vintage red tractors and a family cemetery from the late 1700s, earned a Tricentennial Farm Award in 2019.  WGAL

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A fire in the 600 block of South Second Street in Chambersburg damaged a home and displaced a family of four, and the Red Cross is assisting three adults and one child with temporary housing as fire crews said the blaze began when a window air conditioner overloaded extension cords.  WGAL

CULTURE NEWS

  • Lancaster City Restaurant Week will launch its spring session on Monday, Apr. 13 — 46 downtown restaurants will offer special, discount, or exclusive menus until Sunday, Apr. 19. The event began in 2014 to unite local eateries and give food lovers a chance to explore new deals.  FOX43

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The School District of Lancaster board has proposed teacher cuts and reduced after-school care to close a $10 million deficit. The proposal would raise class sizes to about 25 in middle schools and 20 in elementary schools and eliminate roles such as elementary reading specialists (added with COVID funding).  WGAL
  • Thaddeus Stevens College students are building affordable homes on Chesapeake Street to help meet a local housing shortage — they are gaining hands-on training in carpentry, plumbing and electrical work. About 150 students are involved and will begin a new build next academic year.  WGAL

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Officials from the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission stocked trout in Little Cocalico and Hammer creeks near Warwick Township on Wednesday, following the start of trout season last Saturday (dual stocking helps support high angler turnout) as some streams get an initial and later stocking due to fishing pressure.  WGAL
