  • U-Haul Moving & Storage of Lancaster opened last month on a 13-acre site at 1985 State Road in East Hempfield Township and is the largest U-Haul center in Pennsylvania. The facility offers 1,167 indoor self-storage units (climate-controlled), a U-Box warehouse for 1,000 portable containers, 70 storage spaces for RVs, boats and vehicles, and a grand opening celebration scheduled for May 17 (11 a.m. to 3 p.m.).  PennLive
  • The owner of Bistro Barberet and Bakery in Lancaster filed a lawsuit against pastry chef Cedric Barberet, alleging he misused company funds—using cash for personal ventures such as opening a competing coffee shop—and failed to deposit cash sales; Barberet and his wife have since left the restaurant after over a decade of running it.  PennLive

CRIME NEWS

  • Lancaster City police are asking for help finding 13-year-old Maleah Pinnock (last seen April 1 wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, jeans and red Crocs, with black hair, brown eyes and about four feet eleven inches tall) as she is believed to be in the southeast area of Lancaster City.  WGAL
  • Lancaster County woman Deborah Moyer is charged with 34 felony counts as she allegedly forged checks, made wire transfers and used her disabled husband’s credit cards to steal nearly $52,500 over five months—she was arraigned on Wednesday and remanded to prison after failing to post bail.  FOX43
  • A Lancaster man—William Travis Jones, 59—pleaded guilty on April 3 to aggravated assault after intentionally using his pickup truck to hit a man in a parking lot on South Queen Street on June 20 and was sentenced to two to five years in prison.  FOX43

HEALTH NEWS

  • The PA House Health Committee unanimously approved a bill sponsored by Lancaster County Rep. Bryan Cutler that expands the Cancer Drug Repository Program—allowing both health care facilities and individuals to donate unused prescription drugs after they pass strict quality tests before reaching patients in need.
