  • Animal Rescue Inc. in New Freedom, a decades-old shelter caring for 300-400 animals, is getting support from Give Local York, a county-wide 24-hour day of giving that begins this week; donations will help pay for food + medical care + supplies for the animals amid rising pet surrenders.  WGAL

  • Wren Kitchens closed its US showrooms and filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy on Friday, Apr. 24, leaving PA customers with unfinished kitchens — its website noted the shutdown and Home Depot-hosted studios were also closed.  Daily Voice

  • Garden Spot High School FFA students learned trout care and conservation from That Fish Place - That Pet Place, a Trout in the Classroom partner, before joining a trout release on Monday in Brecknock Township.  FOX43

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Pennsylvania's Department of Conservation and Natural Resources is offering free pocket meadow kits to help homeowners turn lawns into eco-friendly meadows that need less mowing and attract local wildlife. Registration opens today at 9 a.m. on the DCNR website, and kits will ship the week of May 11.  WGAL

  • The Middlesex Township planning commission recommended board approval for early data center plans that promise a 50% lighting reduction and creek preservation; residents remain concerned about blasting impacts on homes and property values as they await the final vote on May 6.  WGAL
