CRIME NEWS

  • A Lancaster County man, 35-year-old Hiren Shah of Mount Joy, was charged with simple assault and harassment after allegedly grabbing a victim's face and trying to stab her with scissors on April 29 at about 12:03 a.m.—police said he had a large cut on his left arm from the encounter.  FOX43
  • A decade-old cold case murder in Lancaster was solved after DNA tests and a confession linked 54-year-old Shawn D. Jones to the January 2013 stabbing of Allan Hess during a burglary at his West Walnut Street apartment—Jones is now in custody and faces further charges.  Daily Voice

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Lancaster County’s Hempfield Water Authority found nitrate levels of 10.8 in water samples taken on April 30th and issued a drinking water warning to customers; the warning advises that infants under six months should only have bottled water—boiling, freezing, filtering, or letting water stand does not lower the nitrate level while older children and adults may drink the water.  WDAC

HEALTH NEWS

  • Hempfield Water Authority warned Lancaster County customers that tap water from East Hempfield Township and parts of West Hempfield Township is unsafe for infants under six months due to nitrate levels above the safe limit; pregnant women and those with serious health conditions should consult their doctors. The authority said tests taken on April 30th showed nitrate levels at 10.8 mg/L and that boiling or filtering the water does not reduce these levels—officials are working with PA DEP to resolve the issue—.  WGAL
