ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • OSHA is investigating the death of a man who possibly experienced a medical event before falling at a UPS facility in East Petersburg, with the coroner’s office set to determine his official cause of death (the investigation is projected to last six months).  WGAL

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Vietnam Alliance Church in East Hempfield Township has served the local Vietnamese community for over 50 years — it began with seven members and now offers bilingual services that welcome people from all backgrounds.  WGAL
  • The Landis Valley Village and Farm Museum in Lancaster County is celebrating America’s 250th anniversary with colonial reenactments, a monthly lecture series, a summer craft camp for kids, and a July 4 Declaration reading — events that showcase PA German history across 100 acres.  WGAL

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The School District of Lancaster approved cuts to 92 jobs, furloughs, and staff reassignments on Tuesday night to address a nearly $10 million deficit; the changes take effect June 30 and the board will vote on the final budget on May 18.  FOX43
  • Today, the School District of Lancaster eliminated 85 positions (40 teachers and 16 administrators) amid a $35 million budget shortfall and declining enrollment. Superintendent Miles said the move starts a multi-year downsizing process that will affect classroom staffing and morale.  WGAL

HEALTH NEWS

  • Constellation Energy closed the Wildflower Trailhead and Mason-Dixon Trail near Conowingo Dam, just south of Lancaster, after black vulture carcasses tested positive for avian flu & the closures are temporary.  WGAL
  • The USDA updated its food safety alert on May 1—adding Great Value frozen pizzas sold at Walmart that may be contaminated with Salmonella. The pizzas feature specific lot codes and best-if-used-by dates from Oct. to Dec., so Lancaster consumers should discard or return any affected items.  Daily Voice

  • Plateau Village residents received appraisal offers and are weighing options as they face relocation from Lititz by Jan. 1, 2027. Some criticized the low offers while a benefit concert (May 31, 1-6 p.m.) at The Barn at Stoner Commons will help raise funds.  Local 21 News
