COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ Today, Lancaster Pet Pantry unveiled its new Dena M. and Samuel N. Lombardo Animal Rescue and Surgery Center — a building with separate spaces for cats and dogs that offers housing, veterinary care and training. The center is open by appointment while additional funding is being raised for full-time operations. FOX43
- ➤ The 37th Annual Mother’s Day Truck Convoy will take place Saturday, May 9, at the Manheim PA Auto Auction (1190 Lancaster Road) and will feature 400 truck drivers, wish families and volunteers. The event will support Make-A-Wish and include a 33-mile route through Lancaster and Dauphin counties to improve safety. WGAL
- ➤ Refresh Lancaster, Lancaster County’s only mobile hygiene unit, may close by June’s end if it does not raise $100,000 by June 30. Operated by Lancaster EMS and the Lancaster County Homelessness Coalition, the trailer serves at Food Hub Lancaster on Tuesdays and Union Community Care on Fridays (community support needed). WGAL

- ➤ Keystone Light introduced its apple-flavored beer, dubbed 'Kapple,' to rival Busch Light Apple as summer cookouts draw near. Unveiled on May 7, the beer will be available in stores by Memorial Day where regular Keystone Light is sold. Daily Voice

EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ The School District of Lancaster eliminated 92 jobs next school year after a 7-to-2 board vote; Superintendent Dr. Keith Miles said staff were notified before the meeting—class sizes may be affected. State agencies and the district will support affected employees with a planned Rapid Response session in early June. FOX43
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Construction is underway in Lancaster County as Rhoads Energy breaks ground on a biodiesel hub in Rapho Township set to open this July. The facility will shift fuel from rail cars to tanker trucks, aiming to lower delivery costs and increase reliability. WGAL

- ➤ News 8 found that smoke shops across the Susquehanna Valley, including one in Lancaster County just 0.4 miles from Manheim Township High School, are very close to schools — prompting lawmakers to consider a bill that would bar new shops from opening within 1,000 feet of them. WGAL

- ➤ John B. Sanfilippo & Son, Inc. voluntarily recalled several snack mixes, including Fisher Tex Mex Trail Mix, on Tuesday, May 5 after a third-party's seasoning contained recalled dry milk powder. Consumers should return the products to the store for a refund or replacement. Daily Voice
