ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Two crashes slowed traffic on Route 30 in Lancaster County, with one eastbound lane closed at exit PA 441 from 6:30 a.m. until 8 a.m. and another lane closed 1 mile west from 6:50 a.m. until 8:30 a.m.—dispatchers reported no injuries.  Local 21 News

CRIME NEWS

  • A Mount Joy dad—Bryan Garcia-Almanza, 26—pleaded guilty to aggravated assault of a child and was sentenced on May 8 to 33 months to eight years in state prison after he broke his 2-month-old daughter's ribs and caused internal bleeding when he shook her, with the baby taken to Penn State Hershey Medical Center.  Daily Voice
  • A 14 year old boy led officers on a high speed chase in Mount Joy Borough on Tuesday that nearly struck pedestrians on a sidewalk and now faces seven charges including reckless driving and unauthorized use of a vehicle, police said.  Local 21 News

  • Lancaster County recorded 10.2 million visitors who spent $2.7 billion in 2024—a 2.7% rise in visitor numbers and a 4.2% increase in spending from 2023 according to Discover Lancaster. The report also showed tourism supported 26,341 jobs and highlighted several new local attractions planned for 2025.  FOX43

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Sen. Scott Martin's bill that requires high school seniors to complete the FAFSA was approved by the state Senate Education Committee to help families know their financial aid options for college and job training. The bill gives families an opt-out and will take effect in the 2025-26 school year—now it awaits full Senate review.  WDAC
