ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • On Thursday morning, a driver escaped his company truck just before it burst into flames on Route 283 eastbound near the Spooky Nook exit in East Hempfield Township at 11:45 a.m.—he said he smelled something burning, lost some personal items and tools, and was not hurt, with the road soon reopening.  WGAL

CRIME NEWS

  • Michael Allen Brown, 48, and his wife Emily Ann Brown, 39, were sentenced on May 22 to five to 10 years in state prison after pleading guilty to three armed robberies in Lancaster County on November 26, 2023; surveillance video and a traced license plate led to their arrest at their home.  Daily Voice

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Herr House was built in 1719 by Christian and Anna Herr using sandstone from the property, making it Lancaster’s oldest dwelling—also the first Mennonite meeting house in the Americas. The Lancaster Mennonite Historical Society bought and restored the house, which opened as a museum in 1974.  WGAL

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Congressman Lloyd Smucker voted in favor of the One Big Beautiful Bill Act in the House where the vote was 215—214, saying the bill will reduce taxes and cut federal spending for families and small businesses. The bill will now move to the Senate—where lawmakers will review its progress.  WDAC

HEALTH NEWS

  • On May 21, GIANT recalled its GIANT and MARTIN’S salsa products due to possible salmonella contamination — customers who bought the affected items are advised to discard them and contact Customer Service for a full refund.  WGAL
