  • Lancaster EMS unveiled its new Wall of Honor at its headquarters on Friday, May 22, marking EMS Week by recognizing employees with 25+ years of service and honoring responders killed on duty in a partnership with Charles F. Snyder Funeral Homes (a symbol of community commitment).  WGAL
  • Emma Keough (a junior at Lancaster Catholic High School) raised over $20,000 to rebuild a damaged soccer field for orphaned children in Han Tinh Village, southern Vietnam after a superstorm hit and partnered with nonprofit Brittany’s Hope to supply additional play equipment.  Local 21 News

CULTURE NEWS

  • Aubrey Nicole, central Pa. native and The Voice finalist, spoke with FOX43 ahead of Gettysburg’s Festival for America on June 13, where she will perform for veterans. She will also appear at the York State Fair on July 25 and Aug. 1 and plans shows at the Grand Ole Opry.  FOX43

ECONOMY NEWS

  • This Memorial Day weekend, Lancaster families face higher meat costs as sirloin rises 2 dollars per pound and ground beef climbs about 1 dollar with whole chicken and produce slightly cheaper (Bureau data links the increases to drought and a record low in cattle supplies).  WGAL

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Manheim Central School District in Lancaster County investigated allegations of student misconduct in a high school gym locker room on May 22, and Manheim Borough Police along with district officials took immediate steps (contacting ChildLine) to ensure student safety.  WGAL
  • Betty Rider announced she will retire next June after a 40-year career at Elizabethtown College; she has served since 2022 and her last day is set at the end of the 2026-27 academic year with no replacement plans released.  WGAL

  • Lampeter Fire Company rescued a 3-month-old bald eagle Sunday night (removing a fishing hook from its beak) and safely returned it to its nest with help from Lafayette Fire Company and West Lampeter Township Police.  PennLive

  • Governor Shapiro ordered all public buildings to fly flags at half-staff from sunrise until 12 p.m. on Memorial Day, Monday, May 25, to honor fallen soldiers and their families. The directive pays tribute to those who sacrificed their lives for freedom.  WGAL

HEALTH NEWS

  • Kettle Cuisine recalled its 24-ounce cup of Whole Foods Market Kitchen Minestrone Soup sold at stores and online in 17 states due to a possible undeclared shrimp allergen; consumers with allergies should return the product for a refund and note it has a use-by date of May 27.  FOX43

  • Former NASCAR driver Kasey Kahne is filling in for injured Anthony Macri this month (winning his first World of Outlaws race at Williams Grove Speedway) as local fans show strong support.  FOX43
  • Trinity senior Marcus Yeager, a University of Richmond signee, will play in the Big 33 Football Classic as the first player from his school in 18 years. The game will kick off at 6:35 p.m. at Cumberland Valley High School's Chapman Field, with girls' flag football beginning at 11:30 a.m.  WGAL
