ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Emergency crews responded to a water rescue at Speedwell Forge Lake near Zartman Mill & Evans roads in Elizabeth Township on Monday, Jun. 1 at 12:26 p.m., and it remains unclear if anyone was injured.  WGAL

CULTURE NEWS

  • The War of the Roses Theatre Company will perform the award-winning musical 1776 at Historic Rock Ford from June 28 to July 1 as part of America250, featuring 26 local actors at the General Edward Hand Mansion + John J. Snyder, Jr. Gallery in Lancaster County Central Park.  FOX43

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Met-Ed customers face bills that will rise by more than 4% as new rate adjustments take effect statewide amid rising fuel costs and expected summer usage, according to the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission — residents can save energy by setting thermostats at 78 degrees when home and 85 when away.  WGAL
  • Teens in our community face a tougher summer job market as national forecasts indicate employers will add only 790,000 teen jobs between May and July (Challenger, Gray and Christmas report this is the lowest level since tracking began in 1948).   • The Elizabethtown Area School District is revising a tech policy that will require students to store cellphones and smartwatches and may rename it Device Den—after community feedback rejected the name Celcatraz. Board members will vote on the changes on June 23.  WGAL

  • Lancaster Conservancy will celebrate the 10th annual Lancaster Water Week from June 5-13 with over 60 water-themed events hosted by 40 local partners — including hikes, river paddling, and educational tours for families to join in caring for local waterways.  FOX43

  • PennDOT has posted plans to relocate a tributary to Hammer Creek in Elizabeth Township to curb flooding on Sleepy Hollow Road — residents can view project details and submit comments online until June 26.  PennLive

HEALTH NEWS

  • Penn State Health Golisano Children’s Hospital uses playrooms to help kids recover with telethon-funded recreation therapy (offering adaptive tools for activities like painting). The Children’s Miracle Network Telethon runs through Thursday with a live finale at 7 p.m.  WGAL

LIFESTYLE NEWS

  • National Donut Day will be celebrated on Friday, June 5, with chains including 7-Eleven, Bonchon, Duck Donuts, Dunkin’, Krispy Kreme, and Shipley Do-Nuts offering free doughnuts and discounts at participating stores + some deals available online.
