COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Lancaster SPCA reported its air-conditioning unit failed Monday, June 23rd, leaving more than 30 dogs in partly cooled kennels while all cats were moved to a cooler shelter—resulting in unsafe work areas for staff. The shelter urgently seeks approved foster families and adopters to care for the dogs until a long-term cooling solution is in place.  WGAL

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • On Saturday morning at 11:18 a.m., a 61-year-old bicyclist ran a stop sign at a Lancaster County intersection and was struck by a 67-year-old driver from Elkton—he later died at Lancaster General Hospital as the driver, who had right-of-way, was not injured.  PennLive
  • A motorcycle and another vehicle collided on Georgetown Road/Route 896 near Maple Shade Road in Colerain Township at 9:55 a.m. Monday—emergency crews responded as Pennsylvania State Police investigated while the road remained closed between Maple Shade and Sproul roads.  WGAL
  • At 10 a.m. Monday, a van burst into flames in the Walmart parking lot on the 200 block of Lincoln Highway East—Lafayette Fire Company reported heavy flames and smoke with no injuries.  Local 21 News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Manheim Township announced Monday night that police Chief Duane Fisher will have his contract terminated in 30 days following a controversial April 30 traffic stop in which he pulled a gun on a motorcyclist, with township officials stating that the decision recognizes the incident has become untenable for all parties.  PennLive

HEALTH NEWS

  • An Extreme Heat Warning is in effect for the Susquehanna Valley until 8 p.m. Wednesday — high humidity and record-breaking temps will make it feel like 100-105° this afternoon, and a Code Orange Air Quality Alert warns children, the elderly, and those with respiratory issues to stay indoors.  WGAL
