ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A 21-year-old man from Marietta died when his car hit a bridge pillar in a single-vehicle crash on Route 283 east at Strickler Road in Rapho Township early Saturday morning, and the Lancaster County coroner’s office said he was pronounced dead at 4:43 a.m. with his cause of death pending an autopsy.  PennLive
  • Over the Fourth of July weekend, firefighters rescued nine boaters near Hershey Dam and a family of five near Hummelstown on the Swatara River—despite creek levels dropping, floating debris and swift currents made water activities dangerous. Local officials and rental experts advised boaters to check current conditions and wear life jackets to stay safe.  Local 21 News

  • Rite Aid announced it will close 114 stores nationwide—including 40 in Pennsylvania such as its Lancaster store at 59 N. Queen St.—as part of its bankruptcy plan that adds to over 1,070 earlier planned shutdowns and follows asset sales to CVS, Giant Eagle, and Weis Markets.  PennLive

CRIME NEWS

  • Lancaster police investigated a shooting on Saturday, July 5 after officers responded at about 5:22 p.m. to a report on S. Christian Street that injured one person with non-life-threatening wounds — no suspect has been taken into custody yet.  WDAC

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Motorists in Lancaster may face delays on Route 72, Route 222 and Fruitville Pike today as PennDOT begins resurfacing work in Manheim Township; crews will mill and pave from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. on weekday nights for about two weeks — lane restrictions are expected during work hours.  WGAL
  • The PA Chamber of Business and Industry said Congress passed the Big Beautiful Bill Act, making the 2017 tax cuts permanent and promising to boost economic growth, create jobs, and offer tax relief for working families in Pennsylvania—focusing on provisions like bonus depreciation and the small business deduction.  WDAC
