COMMUNITY NEWS

  • A FedEx driver in Lancaster rescued an injured owl along his route by using an empty envelope to track it down and then transporting the bird in a FedEx mail bin to Raven Ridge Wildlife Center — where it is now receiving treatment for dehydration and wounds. This act of quick thinking has ensured the owl gets the vital care it needs.  Local 21 News

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Emergency crews responded at 10:55 a.m. Friday when a child was run over by a tractor near North Shirk and West Huyard roads in Earl Township; the child's condition and age remain unknown (the New Holland Police Department is investigating).  WGAL
  • A boat overturned in the Susquehanna River in Conoy Township on Friday at 8:51 a.m.—rescue teams saved the two people onboard at the Falmouth boat ramp while officials have not yet determined the cause of the accident.  WGAL

CRIME NEWS

  • Authorities arrested 33-year-old Tyree Dixon after police responded around 12:39 p.m. on Thursday to a shooting near S. Water and Strawberry Streets—he was also linked to a shooting on the 100 block of S. Prince Street where a man was injured and taken to a local hospital.  WDAC
  • A Lancaster County man was arrested after shoving and punching two hospital staff at WellSpan Ephrata Community Hospital on June 4—Dalton Holinka, 32 from Lititz, received treatment before he was taken to prison and charged with aggravated assault after being released on $25,000 unsecured bail.  WGAL

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Lancaster police increased patrols at Culliton Park after a series of violent incidents and rising criminal activity, and a homeless advocate said the extra patrols could hurt residents who sleep there. Advocates urge police and city officials to work together to protect public safety while ensuring that unhoused neighbors are not unfairly penalized — as fines and arrests could worsen their hardships.  WGAL
