CRIME NEWS

  • Zhong Ren (44) of Brooklyn is accused of stealing $555K in gold bars from an elderly woman in Lancaster County by posing as a federal agent, with police saying the scam occurred during two home visits in April and led to his arrest on July 10; he now faces charges of theft and criminal conspiracy.  Daily Voice

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • A flash flood watch was in effect Monday from 2 p.m. until midnight in most of the Susquehanna Valley as slow-moving storms brought heavy rain that led to flooding in low areas like Lebanon and Lancaster. A sagging front may bring isolated storms today — with more storms expected on Wednesday and Thursday.  WGAL

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Mount Joy in Lancaster County experienced severe flooding and sinkhole collapses yesterday after over six inches of rain hit the area—local officials declared a disaster emergency and emergency responders conducted water rescues and handled over 30 calls. Deb Springer saw a reopened sinkhole near her home on Monday when air bubbles appeared, and she had to wait to see her newborn grandson Roman, who weighed 8 pounds, 6 ounces.  WGAL
