Good morning, Lancaster. Here's your local news at a glance for Wednesday, the 30th of July.

COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Appalachian Trail Conservancy celebrated the trail’s 100th anniversary in March by honoring a century of volunteer work that maintains nearly 90% of its 2,197-mile route — including contributions from eight local hiking clubs — and urged public and government support to keep it running for the next 100 years.  FOX43

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • On Tuesday, July 29, a sedan hit a trailer carrying a John Deere riding mower at the intersection of Lititz Pike and East Millport Road in Warwick Township; the driver suffered minor injuries and was treated at the scene. CRIME NEWS

  • Michael Frances Diffley, 45 from East Lampeter Township was arrested on July 28 after a months-long undercover investigation led Lancaster County Drug Task Force and state police to search his home and a nearby garage where officers seized drugs worth over $129,000 and two handguns—he now faces multiple charges with bail set at $75,000.  Daily Voice

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Community members and Power Interfaith Lancaster County delivered a petition with over 100 signatures to Rep. Brett Miller’s office in Columbia Borough to urge lawmakers to support fair school funding after a 2023 court ruling found the system unconstitutional. School officials say the four-week delay in the state budget is making planning difficult, and parents worry the shortfall may force districts to rely more on local taxpayer funds + risk raising taxes.  WGAL

GOVERNMENT NEWS
