  • Senior citizens from Willow Valley Communities donated thousands of essential items to support J.P. McCaskey High School graduates as they prepared to begin college or trade school. The donations included laundry supplies, notebooks, coffee pots, and gently used suitcases while the district also provided shower packs, towels, and gift cards (from former teachers) to ease the transition.  WGAL

BUSINESS NEWS

  • A 200-Times the Cash scratch-off ticket sold at the King Street Food Market in Lancaster City won a $1 million prize from the Pennsylvania Lottery— the ticket remains unclaimed and the store will earn a $5,000 bonus for selling it.  WGAL

CRIME NEWS

  • Francisco Rodriguez Jr., 38, from Lancaster waived his hearing and will go to trial for arson after he allegedly burned holes and put plastic bags over two statues on July 19—he had previously pleaded guilty to vandalizing a statue and throwing bricks at county buildings in June 2021.  WGAL
  • Lancaster police are searching for 15 year old Uriah Morton, last seen near Lancaster General Hospital around 11 a.m. on Thursday, who is 6 foot 1, 150 pounds and wearing gray athletic pants, gray sneakers, a black Under Armour long sleeved shirt and a black ski mask (if you have any information call Lancaster County Dispatch at 7176641180).  WGAL

EDUCATION NEWS

  • PA CareerLink Lancaster County held a hiring event on Aug. 7 and is hosting another today at 1046 Manheim Pike in Manheim Township. Employers including Millersville University, the School District of Lancaster, Substitute Teacher Service and Student Transportation of America seek candidates for roles such as educators, aides, bus drivers and clerical staff—job seekers should bring resumes and references for on-site interviews.  WGAL

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Nearly 100 Lancaster residents attended the city planning commission meeting on August 7 to voice concerns over a $6 billion investment in AI data centers. The commission approved scheduling a public hearing on October 1 (local advocates worry about issues like rising bills and noise pollution).  WGAL
  • Transit leaders warn fare hikes & service cuts may occur if lawmakers do not finalize a long-term funding plan as Pennsylvania’s state budget remains 38 days overdue. The PA House Transportation Committee advanced a bill to raise the sales tax share for transit by 1.75%, which could add nearly $300 million for agencies such as Red Rose Transit that serves roughly 100,000 riders a month in Lancaster County, though cuts may begin in early winter.  FOX43
