ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A 19-year-old driver named Gage Weaver died in a three-car crash in Ephrata Township near Newswanger and Martindale Roads on Wednesday evening — the Lancaster County Coroner ruled his death an accident caused by multiple blunt force trauma.  Local 21 News
  • Two vehicles collided at the intersection of East Newport — Queen roads in Leacock Township at 3:27 p.m. on Wednesday, sending four people to the hospital after rescue crews extricated two individuals trapped inside the vehicles.  WGAL
  • The coroner's office identified 19-year-old Gage Weaver from Denver, Pa. as the driver fatally injured in a multi-vehicle crash on Wednesday evening around 5 p.m. at the intersection of Newswanger and Martindale roads in Ephrata Township—his death was ruled an accident.  WGAL

  • Zachariah Walker, a Black steelworker burned alive by a white mob in 1911, was buried on Aug. 13 in Coatesville as community leaders held a memorial service—faith leaders and activists gathered to address the legacy of his lynching.  Daily Voice

  • Nearly half of parents expect to pay more for school lunches this year as a packed lunch now averages $6.15—Deloitte's survey shows that grocery prices are 23% higher than in 2020 and many families are switching to cheaper options or more school-provided meals to save money.  Daily Voice
  • Officials say new AI data centers in Lancaster and York Counties may push electricity bills higher for nearby residents as increased energy use could add about 5% to monthly bills starting next June — the Public Utility Commission is reviewing how these costs are shared to keep them fair. Researchers are watching trends closely while utility companies work to manage extra power needs from the centers.  FOX43

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Parents and students at Elizabethtown Area High School voiced concern after a bus was cut from the district's budget to save $4,000 amid a nearly $1 million deficit. The district said it will use four buses that hold 144 seats for band plus cheer teams and will require volunteers to drive separately for away games on Aug. 29.  Local 21 News
