- ➤ On August 13, a lightning strike sparked a basement fire in a New Holland home, and firefighters rescued the trapped cat – working smoke alarms helped save the main part of the house despite substantial crawl space damage. Local 21 News
- ➤ Firefighters responded early Friday to a smoldering product bin at the Purina Mills plant in East Hempfield Township while crews from Rohrerstown Fire Company investigated the one-alarm fire on the 3000 block of Hempland Road. Local 21 News
- ➤ A lightning strike sparked a house fire in New Holland Borough on Wednesday at around 4:30 p.m., and firefighters rescued the family cat while residents evacuated safely and working smoke detectors helped reduce damage to the basement crawl space. WGAL
- ➤ A portion of the Pennsylvania Turnpike near North Sixth Street in Denver remains closed after an injury crash Friday afternoon — crews are working to clear the scene as drivers are advised to take alternate routes. WGAL
- ➤ On Aug. 14, a black bear startled drivers & pedestrians as it crossed busy Linglestown Road near Weis Markets before darting into nearby woods, prompting local residents to share concerns on Nextdoor and call for wildlife officials to safely relocate the animal. Daily Voice
