On August 13, a lightning strike sparked a basement fire in a New Holland home, and firefighters rescued the trapped cat – working smoke alarms helped save the main part of the house despite substantial crawl space damage.

Firefighters responded early Friday to a smoldering product bin at the Purina Mills plant in East Hempfield Township while crews from Rohrerstown Fire Company investigated the one-alarm fire on the 3000 block of Hempland Road.
