ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A family in Manheim faced hardship Monday when a truck crashed into their home at 1:30 a.m.—it hit a curb, struck a tree that pushed two cars, and left everyone, including their dog, uninjured while a GoFundMe was started to help them as they cannot live in their home.  Local 21 News

CULTURE NEWS

  • Insurance company Choice Mutual surveyed over 3,000 people who rated 140 hidden gem cemeteries and found that Lancaster Cemetery is among the most beautiful — blending historic design with peaceful landscaped grounds. The survey shows that many of these sites in the Northeast offer quiet spaces for visitors to reflect during autumn.  Daily Voice
  • The Susquehanna National Heritage Area announced it will award over $100,000 in grants to six local groups that plan projects to boost our cultural, historical and environmental heritage in Lancaster and York counties for the 2025–26 cycle. The awards will fund efforts such as a public exhibit on pre-1776 buildings at the Lancaster Public Library and interpretive signage at a local historical center.  FOX43

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • On Friday, police trapped a 3-foot boa constrictor on Union Street in Columbia Borough after a call from Raven Ridge Wildlife Center — a wildlife rehabber safely placed the snake in a crate. The center is now working with a reptile sanctuary to locate its owner.  Local 21 News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Rep. Lloyd Smucker of Lancaster County introduced the Social Security Child Protection Act to help protect children under age 14 from identity theft by requiring the Social Security Administration to issue a new number if their card is lost or stolen in the mail—he said the bill is a commonsense measure that should be advanced without delay.  WGAL
  • E-bike use in Lancaster has surged as local police and a bike shop owner warned that these faster bikes have raised safety concerns—riders sometimes use them unsafely on roads and sidewalks. PennDOT released a chart on e-bike classifications that requires riders to be 16 or older, and police stressed that riders must obey traffic laws to avoid citations.  WGAL

  • Dutch Wonderland hosts Happy Hauntings with Halloween fun for families now through Oct. 26 — the park offers kid-friendly meet and greet events with Daniel Tiger, glow-in-the-dark foam parties with the Ghostbusters, rides and fall treats on weekends and an extra bonus day on Oct. 13.  FOX43
