COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The community built a growing memorial at the Northern York County Regional Police Department to honor fallen officers Mark Baker, Cody Becker, and Isaiah Emenheiser. A procession returned to Lancaster County—where law enforcement officers lined overpasses along Route 30—and thousands posted memories on social media.  WGAL
  • Residents in the Meadows at Strasburg say demolition of buildings has displaced barn cats—neighbors report some animals are injured and returning to the rubble after crews leave. One local offered to trap and move the cats at no cost but was blocked from entering the site, and officials are advised to be contacted for help.  FOX43

  • Anker Innovations is recalling about 481,000 portable chargers after 33 fire and burn reports caused minor injuries and property damage — the recall targets models A1647, A1652, A1257, A1681, and A1689 and urges users to stop using them immediately.  Daily Voice

CULTURE NEWS

  • Driving Miss Daisy is on stage at the Fulton Theatre in Lancaster until Sept. 28—two-time Tony Award winner Judy Kaye plays the proud widow while Broadway veteran David Jackson portrays her chauffeur. The play follows their changing relationship over 25 years and reflects on race, aging, and social change.  FOX43

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The Department of Conservation and Natural Resources is asking for nominations for Pennsylvania’s 2026 Trail of the Year and forms with extra papers must be submitted by Oct. 31 (the winning trail will be honored with a news release, poster, trail marker, and grant for education on safety and nature). This nomination highlights trails that help boost outdoor recreation in our area.  WGAL

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Lancaster’s first Hispanic police chief, Richard Mendez, announced plans to retire in December after a 25-year career with the police department. He led community programs—such as bike patrols and enhanced recruitment—that helped achieve the department’s lowest homicide rate in decades.  FOX43

SPORTS NEWS

  • Last week’s high school football games in our area saw a busy Week 4 with tough wins in both the Lancaster-Lebanon and York-Adams leagues—teams like Conestoga Valley and the Crimson Tide posted impressive scores, including a 31–7 win and a shutout over Lancaster Catholic. Coaches and players are now preparing for even more competitive matchups as the season moves toward its midpoint.  WGAL
