COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Lancaster search and rescue teams like Pennsylvania Canine Search and Rescue say they want to assist law enforcement more during emergencies. The teams, made up of drone pilots, medical workers and K9 units, are ready to respond quickly when missing persons or children and individuals with autism are at risk—officials urge that their specialized training be utilized more often.  Local 21 News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Elizabethtown Area School District kept all four buses for the band when Superintendent Karen Nell reallocated $3,000 from travel training funds to cover the fourth bus—ensuring full transportation for upcoming events this school year.  WGAL
  • Two Lancaster County families are suing the Eastern Lancaster County School District for allegedly threatening them with criminal prosecution unless they produce a copy of their high school diploma—despite Pennsylvania law not requiring homeschool parents to show proof of graduation. The families claim district personnel, including a social worker, harassed them at their homes and the lawsuit names the social worker, the superintendent, and the assistant superintendent as defendants.  WGAL

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A legal battle has erupted over The Lancaster AI Hub after a local citizen appealed the zoning decision for a 2-million-square-foot data center on Greenfield Road and developers filed a lawsuit last Wednesday to stop the appeal—city officials later canceled the zoning meeting due to improper advertising, and a new date is yet to be set. The project has already contributed $80 million to the local economy while developers claim it could create up to 2,000 construction jobs amid ongoing community concerns.  WGAL

  • Costco has recalled 3,314.7 pounds of Kirkland Signature Ahi Tuna Wasabi Poke sold on Sept. 18 after green onions tested positive for listeria+ customers in Pennsylvania and other states should throw away the product for a full refund as no illness was reported.  FOX43

  • Nature's Recipe launched a contest on Monday, Sept. 22 for dog owners to share photos of their walks for a chance to win $100—entries will be accepted until Sept. 30 as part of a celebration for National Walk Your Dog Week. The prize will be sent via Venmo.  Daily Voice

  • On Monday, local teams won several sports matches in MPC contests, with Northern volleyball’s Samantha Petroff contributing 21 kills and 20 digs at Mercersburg, Trinity volleyball in Lancaster Catholic sweeping the game with Sophia Vander Velden’s double-double, and Big Spring volleyball shutting out West Perry with 18 digs by Caitlyn Swintosky+ teams in tennis, field hockey, and girls soccer also securing victories.  PennLive
