COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ Lancaster County leads the state with nearly 30 horse and buggy crashes per year, and five crashes have injured people this summer. Local organizations including PennDOT—working with the Amish—are promoting safety measures like reflective harnesses and extra buggy lighting while urging drivers to slow down and give buggies room when passing. - ➤ The community is supporting families after a house fire on Sunday in Lebanon killed four people during a birthday celebration; officials said the fire started from an electrical outlet in the first-floor living room and Bag of Hope is accepting donations while a prayer service was held at Love in the Streets Church. - ➤ Dutch Wonderland announced a new inn that will open in March 2026 with 155 rooms, 4 suites, two pools & a restaurant open to hotel guests and the public. The hotel will replace the Cartoon Network Hotel, which will close on Jan 2, 2026 for renovations, and will feature themed dining and park character visits to extend family fun in Lancaster. FOX43

- ➤ Franklin and Marshall College in Lancaster held events to mark National Day of Truth and Reconciliation and to honor Indigenous children affected by the federal residential school system. The college screened News 8 anchor Matt Barcaro's documentary "The Lost Children of Carlisle" — which explores family stories and unresolved remains at Carlisle Indian Industrial School — to highlight the lasting impact on Indigenous communities. - ➤ The Pennsylvania Department of Labor will hold virtual meetings this week for former Iron Hill workers in Lancaster County. The first meeting will run Thursday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m.—the second will take place Friday from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m.—and will offer details on unemployment compensation, job search help, support services and health care options. - ➤ The Lancaster Bureau of Water has proposed a nearly 30% water rate hike for customers outside the city—if approved by the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission the change will take effect on November 29—and both residential users of 4,500 gallons and businesses using 73,000 gallons may see bills rise to $460 per month.
