ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • At Acorn Acres Wildlife Rehabilitation in Lancaster, founder Betsy Shank warned that Halloween decorations such as fake spider webs, lights, and candy wrappers can trap or confuse wildlife. GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • State Sen. James Malone on Friday introduced Senate Bill 1034 to update mandatory reporting laws to include cases when minors share sexually explicit material including AI-generated deepfakes—this move came after a 2023 incident at Lancaster Country Day School where delayed reporting exposed a legal gap, and a companion bill was introduced by state Rep. Nikki Rivera to require immediate notification of authorities. The measure aims to protect children in our digital age by ensuring that such incidents are reported promptly.  WGAL
  • Lancaster County commissioners are using reserve funds to keep essential services operating as the state budget remains unresolved after 100 days. The county covered 100% of service bills until September and will pay 60% from October — a move that helps programs like Arch Street Center serve over 400 community members.  WGAL

  • High school football last week in the region saw teams in the York-Adams, Mid-Penn and Lancaster-Lebanon leagues win big—Central York recorded a 63-7 win and Lampeter-Strasburg won 50-14—while a former NFL player, Matt Filer, returned to coach at his old school and will continue to help local student athletes.
