- ➤ Yesterday, the Salvation Army in Lancaster began distributing coats to kids funded by last year's telethon, and 1,950 people have signed up to receive them at the Queen Street location. Single mother Erica Roman (with three children, including one with autism) said the coats help ease her worries about winter needs, and those in need can register online or visit the building. WGAL
- ➤ Over $7,000 was raised this weekend at Battle of the Badges for families of fallen officers affected by a fatal shooting in York County last month—money that will benefit first responders through the Yard Foundation. Local 21 News

- ➤ Morgan Truck Body will temporarily close its manufacturing facility at 485 Wenger Drive in Ephrata due to unforeseeable business circumstances — layoffs for 92 workers are set to occur around December 15. PennLive
- ➤ Stencil Wash opened on South Market Street in Elizabethtown today and offers sidewalk stencil advertisements that are power washed to create clean, eco-friendly ads. The company was founded by Eric Grill (and high school students Alex Bushey and Aaron McBride) to help local businesses promote themselves. PennLive
- ➤ Just Press Play has opened a new PlaySpace in its 22,000-square-foot store—located at 2007 Lincoln Highway East in East Lampeter Township—for trading card games, board games, role-playing games and miniatures. Weekly events including tournaments and Magic The Gathering sessions will follow. PennLive

- ➤ After Joey Williams died in a car crash on October 5, the Donegal football team postponed their game with Daniel Boone so students could attend his funeral, and when the team returned to the field on Monday, players wore his number & the student section wore orange as a tribute. FOX43
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ UGI Utilities is starting a natural gas main replacement project today in Lancaster that will limit lane and parking access on East Fulton Street between North Shippen and North Plum (Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.) and is expected to run until late November. The project may interrupt gas service and allow UGI to inspect equipment (residents and businesses interested in converting to natural gas should call 800-276-2722). PennLive
- ➤ PennDOT announced that repairs on Route 283 from Esbenshade Road in Rapho Twp. to State Road Route 772 in East Hempfield Twp in Lancaster County will begin Oct. 26th and continue for three weeks. Work will be done from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. Sunday through Thursday—one lane in each direction will stay open as repairs start on the eastbound side. PennLive
- ➤ Drivers along Route 41 9 in Salisbury Twp. will face delays when an overnight paving project reduces the road to one lane—flaggers will alternate traffic directions. Work will begin on Oct. 19 and run Sunday through Thursday from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. for about two weeks. PennLive
- ➤ Expansion joint repairs will take place on Route 30 from Centerville Road in East Hempfield — Oak View Road in East Lampeter starting Oct. 19 for six weeks. Overnight traffic will be reduced to one lane in each direction from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. Sunday through Thursday. PennLive
- ➤ State Rep. Chris Rabb from Philadelphia's 200th District introduced two bills that will ban school mascots from using Native American imagery — the legislation will also provide grants to help schools rebrand. Research showing that such imagery harms Native youth has driven the effort, and noncompliant schools could be barred from interscholastic competitions. WGAL
