  • About 100 locals gathered at Hershey Italian Lodge to support legal Pennsylvania skill games that help small businesses like House of Pizza cut costs and pay employees overtime. The rally also brought in a $19,000 donation for the Christiana Volunteer Fire Company to upgrade its security system—boosting local safety measures.  WGAL

  • Penn Manor School District said Wednesday it pressed charges against a 16-year-old girl for allegedly stealing $10.50 in food and drink items from the cafeteria—officials said her past citations made her ineligible for the Youth Aid Program.  Local 21 News
  • On Oct. 8, an off-duty WellSpan doctor—Dr. Vincent Barnhart—helped treat two troopers shot during a chase on I-81, and both were later released from the hospital.  Local 21 News

CULTURE NEWS

  • Stargazers in Lancaster will enjoy the peak of the Orionid meteor shower on Tuesday, Oct. 21 as a moonless sky provides clear viewing from late evening until the pre‑dawn hours of Wednesday, Oct. 22. Observers can expect around 20 meteors per hour + occasional brighter fireballs and should head to a dark spot away from city lights for the best view.  Daily Voice

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Millersville University students have been excavating the 1700s Gailbraith Ordinary—an early tavern on private property in Lancaster County—for over a month. Professor Timothy Trussell said more than 30 students are learning professional archaeology as they uncover thousands of artifacts that support reports the tavern was licensed in 1725 and the full lab report will be finished next year.  FOX43

  • Township supervisors in Warwick approved a conditional use agreement for an anaerobic digester on agricultural land—settling a legal dispute that began after a property owner filed an application in August 2024. Residents remain worried about potential environmental risks and traffic impacts from the project.  FOX43

  • Lancaster residents can safely dispose of unused prescription drugs on National Drug Take Back Day—Saturday, Oct. 25—for local police drop-offs. The program—aimed at keeping dangerous medications out of the wrong hands—offers a safe, anonymous option for medication disposal.  WGAL
