ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ Residents in Paradise Township have faced repeated accidents at the Route 896 and Belmont Road intersection, with one local couple reporting over 20 crashes and having called 911 four times when they first moved in—town and state officials have only planned minor signage updates. The couple says no formal traffic study or speed limit reduction has been requested—leaving the intersection a continuing risk for drivers and pedestrians. Local 21 News

- ➤ A new mural by artist Shauna Yorty and her team now covers a Walnut Street wall—honoring Jude, a cow rescued by Lancaster Farm Sanctuary after he was set for veal because of his cleft lip. The artists began work on Oct.10 and finished nine days later as Jude celebrated his 5th birthday on Oct.20. WGAL

- ➤ Schools in Ephrata face a crossing guard shortage at the busy intersection of S. Academy Drive and Hammond Avenue—raising safety concerns among parents after a guard was injured in February 2023. Glenn Sweitzer, a parent who has been driving his child for two months following repeated calls to the school, said officials sometimes reassign guards or call police to cover key spots. WGAL
- ➤ Millersville University in Lancaster County announced that student golfer Sydney Barnes, a junior biology major and three-year starter on the women's golf team (who recorded the program's first hole-in-one as a freshman), died on Monday. The school described her as a bright light in the community (extending deep condolences to her family, classmates and teammates). WGAL

- ➤ A bridge in Hellam Township will be renamed to honor Marine PFC Roger Fraker, a Hellam native killed in action in 1968—its dedication ceremony will take place this Saturday at 10 a.m. WGAL
- ➤ Lancaster County Prison Correctional Officer Jaiden Droege—who removed an obstruction to save a choking child on September 14th—was honored with the Lifesaving Award at the Board of Commissioners meeting yesterday, where officials and her family praised her quick action. Lancaster County
- ➤ The State Department of Human Services warned SNAP clients of scam calls asking for their PIN and personal details—stating that the agency will never request this information via unsolicited text, email, or phone call and urging clients to contact them if they receive suspicious messages. WGAL
