COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Petey, the potbellied pig loved by residents after roaming Lititz and East Petersburg in late summer, now has a new home at Lancaster Farm Sanctuary — he has been in quarantine and his debut in the potbelly pig area is scheduled for one week from now — where he enjoys treats and gentle scratches.  WGAL
  • A 10-year-old Mennonite boy from Elizabethtown, Isaiah Scott Martin, died at home on Oct. 22nd surrounded by family, according to Buch Funeral Home. A viewing will be held from 8:30 to 11 a.m. — the funeral service is scheduled at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 25th at Martindale Mennonite Church in Ephrata.  Daily Voice

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • An overturned tractor-trailer collided with an SUV at the intersection of Route 501 and West Lexington Road in Warwick Township yesterday morning, trapping the driver and spurring residents to call for safety improvements as police and PennDOT plan fixes — locals report that accidents in the area are frequent.  WGAL

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The family of Sydney Barnes—a Millersville University student who died after being hit by a car—has partnered with the Greencastle-Antrim Education Foundation to create a scholarship in her honor; her brother Nick Barnes said she hoped to serve others through a career in medicine.  WGAL

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Officer Jaiden Droege of Lancaster County Prison was honored on (Sept. 14) after quickly saving a choking child when a person brought the child to the prison. He received the Star Performer Award at the commissioners meeting (a reminder for all staff to show courage and quick action).  WGAL
  • State officials said Pennsylvania’s LIHEAP program is delayed by one month because federal funding has not been released due to the government shutdown—its start date shifts from Nov. 3 to Dec. 3. Pre-season applications will continue to be processed while families are urged to seek assistance from local utility companies.  Local 21 News
  • A new ambulance station opened yesterday at Franklin and Marshall College in Lancaster County as a partnership between the college and Lancaster EMS — the facility offers EMT students hands-on training and aims to improve emergency response times. EMS and school officials said the station will also serve as a hub for community events with first responders.  WGAL
