COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Cocoa Packs in Hershey is facing longer food pantry lines as the government shutdown and SNAP pause leave local families uncertain about their next meal. Volunteers, who begin setting up at 7:00 a.m., now serve a drive-thru distribution every Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. — the program has grown from serving 90 children in 2015 to over 1,500 from Hershey, Carlisle, Halifax, and Lancaster.  WGAL

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Fire crews rescued cows from a 2-alarm barn fire on May Post Office Road around 8:28 p.m. with Strasburg Fire Company leading the effort along with Ronks Fire Company — no injuries were reported.  Local 21 News
  • Crews are battling a brush fire near West Main Street-Route 322 and Wissler Road in Clay Township while no roads are closed and a wind advisory was in effect until 7 a.m. today.  WGAL

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • High winds caused power outages across the Susquehanna Valley on Wednesday night. PPL reported that 8,359 Lancaster County customers lost power, and a wind advisory remains in effect until 10 a.m. today—drivers should secure outdoor objects and use caution on the roads.  WGAL

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Calls to PA 211 East for food help more than doubled in October during the government shutdown, with food requests rising 104% from last year and over 15,000 statewide referrals recorded. The United Way of Lancaster County call center verified agency hours as nonprofits updated holiday schedules to meet the surging local need.  WGAL
