  • Veterans Day was marked on November 11 as businesses across Central PA offered veterans and active military members free items and discounts when valid IDs were presented—offers ranged from free coffee and meals to complimentary rides and museum entries in local areas like Lancaster.  FOX43
  • Gerald “Gerry” Leinbach, a Navy veteran who enlisted before his 18th birthday, celebrated Veterans Day with an early birthday party in Annville and was honored as a SilverSneakers finalist while noting his five years of service in WWII and the Korean War with his base in Guam — where B-29s took off to bomb Tokyo. His daughter pushed him to celebrate, and he completed a mile on the treadmill in 30 minutes as he looks forward to his 100th birthday in January — a milestone he approaches with quiet determination.  WGAL

  • Lancaster County Navy veteran Ned Kuhns said Allegiant Airlines first gave him a $216 travel voucher for his free baggage benefit instead of a full refund when he returned from Florida—he then reached out to FOX43 Finds Out, which reviewed the airline’s policy—prompting Allegiant to send a check for the full refund.  FOX43
  • Lancaster developers are converting the former RR Donnelly printing site into a new AI data center that will open soon — sparking debate over its impact. Chirisa, which operates a 27-megawatt center in Richmond, said a similar project is 80% complete and three more data centers are under construction.  WGAL
  • Developers are converting the former RR Donnelly printing site into a modern AI data center in Lancaster that will use air-cooling instead of water—addressing local concerns over noise and resource use. The project is modeled after a similar facility in Richmond which created hundreds of temporary jobs and is expected to be fully ready early next year.  WGAL

CULTURE NEWS

  • On Veterans Day, Nov. 11, veterans performed a free concert at Steinman Hall at the Ware Center in downtown Lancaster during the Veterans’ Values and Voices event as part of the Music for Every Vet program. The show featured songs written by veterans and artwork in the lobby — with doors opening at 7 p.m. and the performance beginning at 7:30 p.m.  WGAL

FINANCE NEWS

  • A WalletHub study released on Nov. 10 ranked Pennsylvania among the top 10 most charitable states, showing that residents donated both time and money above the national average — the study compared 50 states on 17 factors like volunteer rates and donation percentages.  Daily Voice

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Pennsylvania Treasurer Stacy Garrity announced that 57 military medals—including two Purple Hearts and a Gold Star Widows medal—have been returned to veterans and their families this year. The medals come from abandoned safe deposit boxes and help honor the service and sacrifice of those who served.  Local 21 News
