COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Lancaster County Food Hub has turned an empty attic into a resource center that offers showers, medical checkups, computer labs, and caseworker help for people needing a safe space. The center opens on Tuesdays and Thursdays—providing vital support that helps residents access essential personal items and long-term assistance.  FOX43

EDUCATION NEWS

  • At the board meeting on Nov 17, a school bus driver and mother said her son got a concussion and questioned the district's bullying policies after a PSP probe into a strangulation incident at the middle school (PSP reported the incident). Board members said they will review the policies and hold follow-up meetings on Dec 8 to address student safety.  Daily Voice

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • On November 18, Hanover Foods Corp. agreed to pay a $1.15M penalty and improve its wastewater treatment as inspectors found over 600 permit violations since 2016. The violations led to improperly treated water discharged into Oil Creek — a source affecting the Chesapeake Bay.  Daily Voice

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Overnight concrete repairs will begin today at 7 p.m. on Route 283 from Esbenshade Road in Rapho Township to State Road (Route 772) in East Hempfield Township and continue on Nov. 20 and again from Nov. 23 to Nov. 25 as weather permits. PDOT said one lane will remain open in the direction where work is performed each night.  PennLive
  • Lancaster reached an agreement with Chirisa Technology to use recycled water and 100% clean electricity for upcoming AI data centers along Harrisburg Pike and Greenfield Road—addressing local concerns about noise, pollution, and water use. The deal, which awaits city council approval, includes over $10 million in investment and about 300 new jobs and will see the centers open by 2029.  Local 21 News
  • Lancaster City officials announced a new community benefit agreement with Chirisa Technology for two data centers on Greenfield Road and Harrisburg Pike that sets strict noise, air quality, water and clean energy standards—forcing the sites to use no more than 20,000 gallons of water per day and contribute $20 million to local funds.  FOX43
  • The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission will hold public hearings in December to gather input on PPL Electric Utilities’ proposed plan to raise a typical residential bill from $177.01 to $189.40—a 7% increase—with a final decision due by July 1. In-person sessions will be held at sites including Lancaster’s Manheim Township Public Library while telephone hearings will also be available.  WGAL

  • Lancaster readers preparing for Thanksgiving should note that a frozen turkey can last up to two years if kept very cold and must be thawed at a rate of about 24 hours for every four pounds using a refrigerator or cold-water method—follow the package instructions and adjust cooking time as the USDA advises for safety. Some turkeys contain added water, salt, and spices, so checking the ingredients is recommended to meet your cooking plans.  WGAL
