COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Amtrak officials at the Lancaster station say tickets are still available for Thanksgiving travel as busy days are expected Tuesday, Wednesday, and the Sunday after Thanksgiving — local travelers should plan to arrive 30 to 45 minutes early and have their tickets ready for a smoother trip.  FOX43

CULTURE NEWS

  • WGAL News 8 is highlighting the Susquehanna Valley's holiday light displays by featuring a different home each night at 11 p.m.—the event starts Dec. 1 and invites residents to send in addresses and photos or videos of their decorated homes.  WGAL

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A $5M construction project has begun at Church Street Towers—an 101-unit public housing community on Church St.—to replace windows, install a new roof and repair masonry to stop rainwater infiltration; work will continue in phases over the next year.  PennLive
  • Lane restrictions and rolling stops are in effect on Route 30 in Hellam Township — pavement patching began at 9 a.m. on Nov. 24, will continue through Nov. 26 before pausing for Thanksgiving, and will resume Dec. 1 through Dec. 4. Drivers are advised to remain alert during the work zone.  WGAL
  • Lancaster hemp farmer Jake Sitler said his business and the local hemp industry are at risk after a federal spending bill provision limits THC to 0.4 mg per container—he warned that regulators must adjust the rule or consumers may turn to the black market when it takes effect in November next year.  Local 21 News
  • East Petersburg Fire Company donated nearly 20 first aid kits to the Northern Lancaster County Regional Police Department to help lower death rates during law enforcement incidents. The kits are being added to all 18 vehicles and extra ones are kept on hand + all officers have been trained to use them.  WGAL
  • Manheim Township commissioners voted 4-1 to switch EMS providers from the current group to Penn State Life Lion due to long response times and declining service—Life Lion will become the primary provider when it starts between this time next year and 2027 with ambulances stored at the township fire department and no expected tax increase.  WGAL

HEALTH NEWS

  • Doctors at UPMC Lititz delivered four sets of twins this week, including three sets of twin boys and one set of twin girls. Hospital staff celebrated the rare event on Highlands Drive in Lancaster County + families welcomed eight newborns during Thanksgiving week.  PennLive
