COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ A house fire displaced a family in Windsor Township on Thursday when Primo Pizza by Ryan (staffed by first responders) stepped in with food, shelter, and is now collecting donations to help the affected family prepare for Christmas. WGAL
- ➤ Christmas Tree Lane has opened at Penn Medicine Park where decorated trees support local nonprofits (including a tree benefiting the Special Olympics) via a $2 donation vote and will be on display until Dec. 23. WGAL
- ➤ WGAL and the Salvation Army will host the 31st Coats for Kids telethon from Monday, Dec. 8 to Friday, Dec. 12 to raise money for new coats for local children this winter. Donations can be made online (helping kids stay warm). WGAL
- ➤ On Friday, Dec. 5, a veteran from the Paralyzed Veterans of America met 7-year-old Sirus Miklos at his bus stop after drivers had harassed him. Amy Patterson & her group delivered gifts and support, and the bullying stopped after a surge in community awareness. Local 21 News
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Hershey Gardens is hosting its Christmas Tree Showcase through Jan. 1, featuring trees decorated by local businesses and schools (including one from Lancaster) to spread holiday cheer. Visitors can enjoy festive designs and community artistry at the venue. WGAL
- ➤ ELF the Musical plays at the Fulton Theatre in Lancaster through Dec. 28, offering a festive take on the classic Buddy the Elf movie with lively sets and warm performances that bring holiday cheer to local families (featuring Ben Fankhauser and Jaygee Macapugay). FOX43
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ A Lancaster County wildlife center urged hunters to choose non-lead ammunition after a bald eagle, found near a deer carcass and suffering from lead poisoning, was taken in today. The center is treating the bird with fluids, antibiotics & medication to aid its recovery. FOX43
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Crews will inspect the northbound and southbound Route 222 bridges spanning Route 322 in Ephrata next week (weather permitting). The inspection will run from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 9 with left lane restrictions on Route 322 between the ramps. WGAL
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Warwick EMS in Lancaster County will soon launch a pilot program that allows crews to carry antibiotics for suspected sepsis pending approval from the Pennsylvania Department of Health’s Bureau of EMS, with trained paramedics using a checklist to identify high-risk patients and start treatment early.
