COMMUNITY NEWS

  • WGAL and the Salvation Army distributed over 1,900 new coats to children in Lancaster County at a toy drive event that selected 700 families for toy choices and gave every child two stuffed animals donated by the Hershey Bears (demonstrating local community care despite financial hardships).  WGAL
  • The 31st Coats for Kids telethon is underway as WGAL covers the local Salvation Army in Harrisburg distributing winter coats for 2,000 children. Volunteers sorted coats with help from partners like Lititz’s Garman Builders — boosting the drive — which runs from Monday, Dec. 8 to Friday, Dec. 12.  WGAL
  • Toys for Tots in Lancaster is calling for extra toy donations amid a 17% surge in need over the past two years to serve 600 families. Donors should drop off unwrapped toys at U-Haul on Columbia Ave in West Hempfield Township by distribution day on Dec. 15 starting at 5 p.m.  WGAL
  • VisionCorps in Lancaster invites visually impaired children to send their Braille letters to Santa so they can join a cherished Christmas tradition. Children should send their wish lists by December 15 to ensure a timely reply in Braille from a special helper.  WGAL
  • Residents of the Garden Spot community in Lancaster County raised funds to buy over 70 gift cards valued at $25 each and cookie trays for New Holland first responders as holiday gifts, with Garden Spot Fire Department Chief Larry Martin noting the gesture honors the volunteers' 24/7 service.  WGAL
  • Garman Builders — a Lititz-based homebuilder — raised over $1,000 to supply more than 100 winter coats for local children through the Salvation Army’s Coats for Kids program in Lancaster. The team celebrated its fundraising with a relay race and generous donations via its Garman Gives program.  WGAL

CULTURE NEWS

  • America250PA unveiled a custom-designed bell for Lancaster County at the Lancaster County Courthouse on Wednesday as part of the Bells Across PA initiative to celebrate the nation’s 250th birthday. The bell features local landmarks, and Pennsylvania will install bells in its 67 counties by July 4, 2026.  FOX43

HEALTH NEWS

  • TBC Distribution Corporate recalled its Lucky Foods Cinnamon Powder in Pennsylvania after a New York State analysis detected elevated lead levels in 40-gram pouches marked with a Sept. 15 best-before date (announced Dec. 9). The FDA advises residents not to use the product since no illnesses have been reported.  WGAL
