COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Messick's Farm Equipment in Mount Joy is hosting its 12th annual free Christmas light show from Dec. 5 to Dec. 28, running 6-9:30 p.m. nightly excluding Christmas Day — donations collected support local nonprofits and have raised over $480,000 since 2013.  WGAL
  • A local mail carrier in Lititz spread holiday cheer today by delivering packages dressed as the Grinch with green makeup and a Santa robe, uniting neighbors and sparking smiles across the community.  FOX43
  • Bachman's Roofing worked with Ephrata Cancer Center and 4 Girls on a Mission to install a new roof for a cancer patient in Lancaster County this week. The project repaired leaks that would have cost thousands of dollars to fix (a regular charity effort by the company).  FOX43

CULTURE NEWS

  • WGAL highlights a 25 Nights of Lights display at 316 Dover Street in Manheim Borough that features colorful lights and Santa with his reindeer on the roof. The program airs at 11 p.m. each night through Christmas Eve.  WGAL

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Consumer prices rose 2.7% in November, the Bureau of Labor Statistics reported, with data for October missing due to a 43-day federal shutdown; Lancaster shoppers may soon see higher grocery costs as food prices, including a 35% jump for coffee, increased.  WGAL

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Three teachers from Lancaster County Christian School braved a cold night on the school roof during Week of Giving Tuesday, raising over $700,000 to fund an expansion with 15 classrooms, three innovation shops, and additional physical education and cafeteria space.  WGAL

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • On Thursday morning, freezing fog made roads slick in Lancaster County—drivers experienced reduced visibility. A wind advisory remains in effect tonight with heavy rain and strong gusts expected, and a cold front will pass early tomorrow morning.  WGAL

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Lancaster residents gathered at City Hall to hear from three finalists for police chief as Mayor-elect Jamie Arroyo said a new chief is expected to be named soon after Chief Richard Mendez retires tomorrow.  WGAL
