COMMUNITY NEWS

  • A community-led fundraiser at Elizabethtown Church of the Brethren has paid off $24,000 of a $34,000 lunch debt for local K-12 students. Organizers expect the remaining $10,000 to be raised by the new year via anonymous donations collected through a giving tree.  Local 21 News
  • The Pennsylvania High School Rodeo Association will not join the 2026 Farm Show due to equine herpesvirus concerns, but the event will maintain a full equine schedule and host the First Frontier Circuit Rodeo Jan. 15-17 (with strict biosecurity protocols in place).  WGAL
  • Tilly is a three-month-old brown and white tabby from the Pet Pantry of Lancaster who had one eye removed as a kitten but now loves to run and cuddle. She is ready for a caring home.  FOX43
  • The PA Farm Show said the PA High School Rodeo Association pulled out of the 2026 show (citing equine herpesvirus concerns after three cases were confirmed, including one near Lancaster) and will maintain a full equine schedule with strict biosecurity protocols in place.  Local 21 News

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Lancaster County’s historic Neff’s Mill Covered Bridge, built in 1824 and rebuilt in 2018, reopened on Dec. 17 after $300K in repairs from a box truck crash on May 28 near Strasburg that led officials to update weight and height signage.  PennLive

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The National Weather Service issued a winter storm watch for the Susquehanna Valley from Friday morning through Saturday morning — heavy mixed precipitation may cause up to two inches of snow and sleet with up to a quarter inch of ice, warranting cautious travel.  WGAL

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • PennDOT and the Turnpike Commission warned that a winter storm will hit the Susquehanna Valley Friday morning, with snow, sleet, and freezing rain expected through Saturday; drivers are urged to avoid travel and drive cautiously on treated but possibly icy roads.  WGAL
